Sagging Skin - And What to Do About It

Sagging skin is something that occurs over time, but it is good to know that there are steps you can take to prevent and fight against sagging skin and wrinkles.

First, let’s see where sagging skin comes from:

These are the three most common causes, but there are measures you can take now to prevent further damage.

Remember Sunscreen

Protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun is critical, so don’t forget the sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher, when possible), and work that big, floppy hat and those over-sized sunglasses into your wardrobe as soon as possible.

Hydration

Well-hydrated skin will always appear more supple and youthful. Fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging are far less apparent on well-hydrated skin, and drinking plenty of water helps the body flush toxins that can cause further skin damage.

Healthy Eating & Healthy Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight is important for general health. Extreme weight gain causes stretching that skin can’t easily recover from, and when excess weight is reduced, the overstretched skin will sag and wrinkle.

How to Fix Problem Areas

There are lots of options for reducing the visible signs of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging.

A healthy lifestyle makes a big difference, including physical activity that tones the muscles beneath the skin, drinking water to stay hydrated, and following a skin care regimen that includes daily sun protection, exfoliating and moisturizing. Professional facial treatments also boost your regular skincare regimen. While not completely reversible, improvements in your health will improve your skin.

Chemical peels cause a mild reaction that causes the top layer of your skin cells to peel away and stimulate the growth of new skin. Performed by a professional, regular chemical peels have been shown to be very effective. .

Laser skin tightening heats the collagen beneath the skin in targeted areas, causing immediate tightening results, and promoting further cellular turnover and new collagen production to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. This process has been proven to continue to improve the tightness of skin over a period of months after each treatment session, especially if you undergo a series of sessions spread out over time. There is also no downtime, minimal redness in some cases, but patients can return to their regular activities immediately.

Fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and other signs of aging are not completely irreversible, if you eliminate the factors that cause these problems, and take steps to treat the problem areas you may already have.
