Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that’s used to treat skin concerns via collagen production. Also known as collagen induction therapy, this treatment may help those looking to reduce the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks.
Microneedling works by encouraging your skin to make more collagen. The tiny pinpricks cause slight injury to the skin, thus creating new collagen rich tissue.
The result is more even tone and texture.
What to expect at your procedure:
Your technician will do a thorough consult to determine that Microneedling is the best option for you and your concerns. They will apply a topical numbing agent to minimize discomfort, which will be done about 45 minutes prior to the procedure. The Microneedling itself will take about 30 minutes.
Your aftercare is very important in the success of your results. The tiny little pinpricks will be open for 18 hours following your procedure. Your technician will show you exactly what to use on your skin in that first 18 hour time frame. It is important to stay out of the sun, and no exercising or any activity that would increase your body heat for the first 24-48 hours. Do not apply any makeup right after your procedure.
Your skin will continue to go through the healing phases for 4 weeks. Therefore, it is crucial to be using products recommended by your technician to achieve the best results as well as minimize any chance for reaction or inflammation.
What to expect after Microneedling:
Microneedling isn’t invasive like plastic surgery, so the recovery time is minimal. Most people require very little downtime if any at all. You may notice skin irritation and redness within the first few days following the procedure. This is a natural response to the small “injuries” made by the needles in your skin.
Best Results are seen with a minimum of 3 treatments. These are typically spaced 4 weeks apart. Your technician will advise you on the best treatment plan.
Microneedling is most often used on your face to treat:
~age spots (sun spots)
~fine lines and wrinkles
~other types of scars
~reduced skin elasticity
~uneven skin tone
Risks or side effects:
Like all cosmetic procedures, Microneedling isn’t without risk. The most common side effect is minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure. You may also see redness for a few days. Call your doctor if you notice more severe side effects, such as:
You may not be an ideal candidate for Microneedling if you are pregnant, have had radiation therapy recently or have a history of skin scars.
PRP is typically paired with Microneedling to greatly enhance the results.
During this procedure we take a small sample of your blood and extract powerful growth factors. These growth factors stimulate new collagen to form, reduce inflammation and promote new blood supply. We apply PRP topically and/or via injection. This provides amazing results for resurfacing and healing the skin.
PRP can also be used in place of synthetic fillers to naturally plump the areas of concern and to help remold collagen in areas it has been lost.
It is an excellent choice for those who are wanting non-invasive anti-aging treatment options.
